SGaan Kinghlas-Bowie Seamount, Part 1
Pink pom pom anemones and magenta sea urchins kept the Nautilus team in awe as we explored ragged rock cliffs and muddy slopes of the SGaan Kinghlas-Bowie Seamount.
We explored this marine protected area off Haida Gwaii, Canada, over four dives during the Northeast Pacific Seamounts Expedition. E/V Nautilus is collaborating with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Oceana Canada, Ocean Networks Canada and the Haida Nation on an expedition to explore seamounts near the islands of Haida Gwaii in the northeast Pacific Ocean off the coast of British Columbia. Northeast Pacific Seamounts
During this expedition, E/V Nautilus will visually survey three offshore Pacific seamounts with Fisheries and Oceans Canada in partnership with Ocean Networks Canada, Oceana Canada, and the Haida Nation. Seamounts are important for the resilience of biodiversity and fisheries, and Canada identifies them as Ecologically and Biologically Significant Areas.
