Pink Chaunacops Swims In Front of ROV Hercules
There’s no such thing as too many Chaunacops videos! Our Corps of Exploration spotted this anglerfish while diving on an unnamed seamount about 90 nm northwest of Johnston Atoll over 3,000 meters deep during our NA153 expedition. These deep sea fish, also known as sea toads, are always a treat to spot and this one gave us a special view of its modified pelvic fins resembling legs that assist with swimming maneuvers. You can also clearly spot the gill openings behind the pelvic fins, which our scientists jokingly state resemble “jet packs.”
