Yizhaq Makovsky is a faculty member at the Dr. Moses Staruss Department of Marine Geosciences, Charney School of Marine Sciences (CSMS), University of Haifa. He graduated the Department of Geophysics and Planetary Sciences at Tel Aviv University in 1990 and earned his Ph.D. in Geophysics 1997 at Stanford University, studying deep crustal fluids and their contribution to mountain building in Tibet. For a decade he consulted worldwide petroleum industry on advanced geophysical subsurface imaging and analysis. He joined the University of Haifa faculty in 2007, where he was one of the founders of CSMS. Yizhaq’s current interests focus on applied research of active seafloor processes, such as submarine slides, sub-seafloor fluid flow and paleoseismology, and their interplay with marine development and global changes.
