Tea Zegarac-Pollock
What sparked your initial interest in your career?
What initially sparked my interest in science was growing up with a mother who is a passionate geneticist. I was constantly encouraged and inspired by the people around me to explore and pursue the subjects that interested me, particularly within STEM. I'm currently exploring ideas about how to continue my studies into a career and am so excited to learn from everyone on Nautilus.
Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?
My middle school science teacher influenced me greatly in gaining the confidence to say I wanted to pursue a career in science.
What element of your work/ study do you think is the most fascinating?
The most fascinating thing I have experienced is finding species of octopus and other animals that have never been observed in the area before.
What other jobs led you to your current career?
I have had a multitude of experiences that have allowed me to understand my passions better. Working as a deckhand and a submersible pilot have granted me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in my passions for boating and the ocean.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy surfing, wakeboarding, baking, writing, flying planes, and riding horses.
What excites me most is being able to be a part of a team that is full of people who are equally passionate about the ocean and learning about their environment.
