Sarah Lott
Tell us about your work/research. What kinds of things do you do?
I have been a laboratory assistant at WHOI for several years and have helped out on projects including oyster aquaculture research and lower oceanic crust microbiology
What sparked your initial interest in your career?
My high school's science fair introduced me to the idea of research which I was immediately drawn to and my interest has only grown with my work as a lab assistant and courses in college
Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?
My mentors at WHOI and at college have both taught me so much
What element of your work/study do you think is the most fascinating?
I find it really cool how even in unexpected environments microscopic life is still found
What other jobs led you to your current career?
While most of my work has been as a lab assistant at WHOI, I have also spent one summer bleeding horseshoe crabs at Associates of Cape Cod, and was very briefly a high school substitute teacher while home on break from college
What are your degrees and certifications?
Bachelors of Science in Microbiology and Environmental Studies (hopefully!) 2022
What are your hobbies?
I love baking, roller skating and reading science fiction books!
What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?
I'm still an undergrad so I have no idea!
