Tell us about your work/ research. What kinds of things do you do?
As an undergrad student who is choosing to take the next step in my education, I have not done any research or work when it comes to science. However, I am very interested in expanding that. I hope to get more opportunities when it comes to research.
What sparked your initial interest in your career?
As an undergrad student, what really interested me in Biology was understanding different organisms and how they work. Don’t get me wrong, humans are very interesting but a part of me has always been more curious about wildlife/ocean species. When given the chance to take classes and expand my understanding on different organisms, I have gained so much knowledge that has led me to want to make a carrier out of it.
Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?
One of my college professors who is very passionate about what she does has encouraged me to not be afraid to take risks and ask questions. She is a huge part as to why I heard about this program and applied.
What element of your work/ study do you think is the most fascinating?
The most fascinating thing I have done in my studies has to be taking a Parasitology class and looking at parasites and their different stages under a microscope. Besides school, partaking in this expedition will be a very fascinating experience.
How did you get involved with Ocean Exploration Trust? How did you become part of the expedition team?
I applied for the program after meeting with a professor and expressing my interest in marine biology.
What other jobs led you to your current career?
I have yet to find jobs with my degree/ interest in biology.
What are your degrees and certifications?
Certified First Responder. By May of 2025, I will have my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences.
What are your hobbies?
I love going on hikes with pretty views. I also love going on walks and spending time with loved ones.
What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?
Studying Biology may not be the easiest but it is definitely the most rewarding. I know there can be moments where school may overwhelm you but never give up. As cliche as that may sound, anything you set your mind do can be accomplished. It just takes time and lots of patients with yourself.
