Mar a Ang lica Cardona Maldonado
María Angélica Cardona areas of interests include the relationships between marine ecosystems and water optical properties. She expects to relate light stress damage, coral physiology and optical parameters in order to improve remote sensing products that could help in natural resource management.
Maria A. Cardona-Maldonado graduated from University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras in 2000 with a degree in biology and completed a master in science (MS) in biological oceanography in 2008 from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez and a master's in education (MEd ) from Loyola University in 2011. At present she is a graduate student in the biological oceanography PhD program from University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
"I am excited to sail aboard the Nautilus because I think this kind of research platform is a very important, practical and real time, opportunity for interdisciplinary understanding of all the oceanographic theoretical concepts. It is also a once in a lifetime window to decipher oceanographic processes in the Caribbean region."
