Liz Sayavedra
Lizbeth Sayavedra is a PhD student in the Symbiosis Department of the Max Planck Institute for Marine Mirobiology. Lizbeth is studying the sulfur-oxidizing symbionts of Bathymodiolus mussels that colonize hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. Her work focuses on the mechanisms of host-symbiont interaction during the bacterial colonization of the gill tissue of the mussels.
Lizbeth Sayavedra graduated from the National University of Mexico in 2009 with a degree in Genomic Sciences and completed her Master's in Marine Microbiology at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Germany in 2012. She is currently doing her PhD in Marine Microbiology in the aforementioned institution.
"I have been working with animals of the deep-sea during my master's and PhD, but I haven't had the opportunity to see them alive. I am eager to go on my first cruise exploration to see them alive and in their natural habitat!"
