Jeffrey Seewald
Jeff Seewald is a Senior Scientist in the Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He uses field, laboratory, and theoretical approaches to examine how fluids, rocks, and sediments react with each other beneath the seafloor. He has conducted field work using manned and unmanned submersibles in a broad range of geological environments including mid-ocean ridges, back-arc spreading centers, serpentine mud volcanoes, and cold seeps. During this cruise he will be focused on determining the flux and composition of gas exiting the seafloor at natural hydrocarbon seeps.
Jeff Seewald received B.A. degree in Geology from Colgate University in 1984 and completed his Ph.D. in Geochemistry at the University of Minnesota in 1990.
"I consider myself very lucky to be able to participate in this process of discovery and learning. It's not easy, but it sure is a lot of fun."
