Tell us about your work/ research. What kinds of things do you do?

Beyond classes, I've been fortunate to engage in research at my university focused on the impact of climate change on low-income communities and how to initiate food diversion programs to improve their quality of life, specifically the community of Cayce Homes in Nashville. I work in the Climate, Health, Energy, and Equity Lab (CHEEL) under the amazing Dr. Carol Ziegler, Dr. Zdravka Tzankova, and Dr. James Muchira.

What sparked your initial interest in your career?

I'm not exactly sure what my career will map out to be, but I'm definitely excited to gain information on deep-sea mapping, as I definitely want to do some work with environmental nonprofits or businesses' environmental, social, and governance programs.  I think knowledge gained on this expedition will be helpful wherever I go.

Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?

My friends and peers I surround myself with are always so encouraging.

What element of your work/ study do you think is the most fascinating?

I'm engaged in this cool club called WilSkills on campus where I get to take fellow students on outdoor adventures! Getting to explore caves, rock climb, paddle, and backpack with awesome people is definitely fascinating.

How did you get involved with the Nautilus Exploration Program?

I'm part of the STEMSEAS program which is being hosted on E/V Nautilus! I first heard about STEMSEAS through a college newsletter and I wanted to apply ever since.

What other jobs led you to your current career?

In high school I was a tutor and swim coach, so I would say those were pretty helpful towards doing well in college!

What are your degrees and certifications?

I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development. I am Wilderness First Aid certified too.

What are your hobbies?

I love love surfing and rock climbing! I'm a budding skateboarder as well. Running and relaxing is always a fun time as well.

What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?

My current career is being an undergraduate student, which is a point of worry for many high schoolers. For them I would say to explore and find fun extracurriculars that are enjoyable to help relieve stress from academics.
