Catherine Valery
Katie Valery has completed the Advanced Marine Biology course and the Summer Aquatic Research Program in the Oceanography Department at her high school, and she is a licensed open water scuba diver. She has conducted sampling and research in the Chesapeake Bay with NASA Oceanographers, worked with a mini remotely operated underwater vehicle in the Chesapeake Bay, and has studied Ocean Chemistry with the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. Katie's research has ranged from studying the effect ultraviolet radiation has on fecal coliform contaminated stream water, to the creation of biofuel from algae triglycerides. Katie plans to complete her high school senior research project in the Oceanography Lab. Katie lives in northern Virginia and enjoys playing soccer for her high school team and travel club team in her free time.
Katie Valery attends Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia. She is in the high school class of 2014.
