Angelos Mallios
Angelos Mallios works as ROV pilot onboard the E/V Nautilus for the Spanish leg of the 2011 expedition.
Angelos is working in the marine research the last twelve years. From the 2003 he was a diving and ROV supervisor and responsible for the maintenance of the manned submersible THETIS at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) and he has participate in a number of research and expedition cruises. His research interests include the design of underwater vehicles and their sensor technology. For his PhD, is focusing to the navigation problem of the autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and more specific to the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), based on acoustic sensors. When he is not working, traveling, diving (with scuba or submersibles), mountaineering or skydiving, he is trying to catch up with friends.
Angelos graduated from Hellenic Open University in 2006 with a degree in computer science and in 2009 he completed his MS at the University of Girona in industrial computing and automatic control. Currently, he is towards his PhD in computer vision and robotics.
