In honor of Shark Awareness Day, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite shark experiences over the years! Take a trip down memory lane and help raise awareness about the importance of sharks to the ocean.

Shiver of Prickly Sharks

One of our most surprising sightings during our 2017 expedition to the Channel Islands was a shiver of prickly sharks! Dense mats of thorn-like denticles give their rough skin extra armor and a standoffish common name. After our expedition team spotted these sharks at 161m depth in NOAA Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, our video production team noted 34-41 sharks.

Caribbean Reef Shark Investigates Hercules

This Caribbean reef shark visited ROV Hercules during our 2014 exploration of Kick 'em Jenny, the Caribbean's only active underwater volcano. These sharks a closely related to dusky sharks and are at the top of the food chain - they eat mainly fish and cephalopods. They are threatened in many areas but have benefited from marine conservation efforts in several countries.

Sharks of the Anegada Seamounts

We encountered several sharks of all shapes and sizes during our 2014 exploration of the Anegada passage, including small catsharks, a huge sixgill shark, and more - check them all out in this clip, and stay tuned for more!

Wonderous Whitetip Sharks Caught on Camera

One of the most charismatic species we encountered during our 2022 cruise to the Pacific Remote Islands, oceanic whitetip sharks never fail to impress our team members when they show up on camera.
