Shipwreck 15577 Dive Highlights July 19
This is a highlight album from our dive on July 19, 2013. Hercules and Argus were exploring various parts of a copper-clad, 19th century shipwreck located 170 miles off of Galveston, TX in the Gulf of Mexico. Initially a video and photo overview of the wreck was conducted, followed by a detailed mapping survey once a perimeter was establised using LBL devices. We found several interesting types of artifacts, such as a cannon, muskets, plates, bottles, a stove, anchors, and navigation tools. Some interesting creatures were also noted on the wreck, such as sea cucumbers, crabs, and anemones.

The Discovery
In April 2012, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) ship Okeanos Explorer conducted the first reconnaissance of shipwreck site 15577 as part of an interdisciplinary exploration mission focusing on deepwater hard-bottom habitat, naturally occurring gas seeps, and potential shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico.
